Untranslated French letter. Andre (1869-1954, born in Lyon, France) was a Post-Impressionist painter. He worked in the textile industry, designing pattern for silk fabrics, before joining the Julian Academy in Paris, France in 1889. His first exhibit was in 1894 at the Salon des Indépendants, where he met and befriended Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Renoir introduced him to Paul Durand-Ruel, who helped to make Andre a success in the United States. Andre is especially associated with the Salon d'Automne, who he exhibited with from 1904 to 1944. Encapsulated in Mylar. Not matted in Gallery of History style. Items were not evaluated outside matte or encapsulation. "As is" matting purchase. Lightly toned. Letter is lightly creased. Folded once and unfolded. Matte has lightly rounded corners. Encapsulation is lightly soiled, scratched and scuffed, torn open at all corners and taped shut on verso.
